I have a 96 F250 7.3 ltr diesel power stroke truck which is currently a 2wd truck. Is there anyway that I can convert this into a 4wd truck. I know I wouldnt be able to do it myself, but is there a place out there that can do that? Also how much approx am I looking at if they can do it.
I think the hole in the floor is there for the Tcase shifter.
Find a truck similar to yours, and take the parts you need. You'll probably have to ahve a front drive shaft made.
YOu'll have to swap the front end out of a 4x4 f250. I belive they have different springs and such also.
You'll need a new rear drive shaft unless you find your exact truck, 7.3 desil 4x4.
it's a lot of little things, but not difficult, your truck will have the hole in the floor for the tcase, it has a removable plate covering it, your wiring harness will also have the plug in for indicator lights letting you know you are in 4wd or 4lo. biggest obstacle i see is that the 2wd is coil sprung and the 250 and 350 4wd are leaf sprung, my suggestion would be find a 4wd 250 or 350 in junkyard and get the axle, springs, and shackles off truck. take good measurements so you can line them up properly on yur truck, or you will have problems ever getting the aligment right. you can use your rear driveshaft just take it and get it shortened. you can do most of the work yourself if you are mechanically inclined and have the time. my 95 f150 was 2wd and i converted it with an 83 4wd that i had. having a whole truck to get what i needed off it made things a lot easier than going back and forth to junkyards. do some shopping around and try to find a whole parts truck to work with, or start looking around at junkyards and pricing the individual parts. like i said, getting all the parts together is harder than actually making the conversion.
Yes, Any sort of modification that big is best to have a parts truck there to take off of easily, so all the parts match up, and you can easily make mesurements and such.
