Trailer Wiring

Hey. I have a 2003 F-550 that has a seven? pin outlet. The trailers that I will be towing have the four pin connectors. Is there something that I could do or buy that would allow me to convert the either the trailer or truck.

I also pull these trailers with two F-150s so I would still need the 4 pin for them.

Here you go.

http://www.amazon.com/Hopkins-Simple.../dp/B0002RNSLO

http://www.amazon.com/Hopkins-Plug-S...608026&sr=1-19

If you don't like buying online both of these can usually be found at your local Walmart or auto parts store.

Hoppy makes a plug and play 7 and 4 wire connector, that allows you to have both the 7 and 4 on one block. Or you can use a 7 to 4 converter. Or sence the Ford and Chevy plug is the same you can get the pnp chevy to 4 wire pigtail.

hopkingsmfg.com They make most of the towing electrical hooks you see around.

At work we have a truck that only has the 7 pin plug and I was able to purchase an adapter that plugs into the 7 pin socket and has a 4 pin pigtail out the other end. I think I got it at a Pep boys or somewhere similar.

Thanks a lot for the fast responses guys. I had called Pep Boys already, but they said they weren't able to find anything.

I am correct when saying seven pin right?

Yeah the person there probably didn't know what you were talking about. If it isn't too far out of the way I would just stop by some time and look most places have them. The first link in my post is the one I bought cause that gives me the 3 most common trailer plugs. I bought mine at walmart but I have seen it at Advanced auto and Autozone too.

7 pin flat or RV, there is a 7 pin round but luckily it is uncommon in average trailers.

Does the six pin connection look like a longer four pin? And then the seven pin connection looks more like a round plug, I'm assuming, because that what the connection looks like on the truck.

the stock truck plug has 7 blade terminals not pins.I bought my adapter at murrays as the stock flat plug I removed to use the wires for my tool box. They also make an adapter to go from the 7 blade to a 6 pin that also has a 4 flat pin. both of these adapters are simple plug ins.

This goes in to the 7 blade, or RV connector that your truck should have. It gives you the 6 pin connector and the 4 way flat connector. This is the one I have and it works great and will work with the vast majority of trailers out there.

I've had the same problem....go to any local dealer that sells utility trailers. They keep adapters in stock because when a guy shows up to buy a trailer, it has to leave the lot with the lights working.

The most I've ever paid for mine ( 7 round to 4 flat) is about 20 bucks.
