Sound from steering column

I have a sound from the steering col. of 03 150. It is faint, but sounds like someone running thier fingernails over nylon!!! I raised the hood and you can't hear it from there, only the in the cab. Does something in the column need lubed?Of course it only does it when you turn the wheel. Anybody??

check for wires or sound deadining material where the column goes through the fire wall. the fluid level is fine right?

Yep, fluid is fine. It just started to day. It sounds like it is right at the wheel and the column if that makes any sense.

I had it happening for awhile, turned out to be a piece of foam that had come loose and started rubbing on the shaft.

Thats probably what has happened to mine. I have a bad habit of using my steering wheel for drum set while I am driving!! Thanks.
