looking for more power!

Ok. i have a 2002 f-150 supercrew w/ 5.4L. I have a K/N filter, BBK 75MM throttle body, Gibson performance cat-back exhaust, Poweraid throttle body spacer. i was wondering if a hypertech/superchip/diablo tuner would be the next best thing i could do and which one would be the best for city/highway/off-road use?

i think outside of specific features - they all do basically the same thing...and you will have to modify it to whatever you plan to use it for...(hwy economy vs. offroad power vs. towing power???)

how do you like your BBK throttlebody and spacer?
has it been worth the $$?

Oh yes, definately worth the $! you can really tell the difference in throtle response from the stock throttle body. And the spacer sounds like a turbo! i would recommend the combo to everyone!

But i was wondering which tuner most people would perfer, i rarely drive on the highway, about 20 miles a week. i mostly run around the city and the weekends the truck sees some mud time. but im mainly lookin for some more low end torque to get through the deep stuff. and some more power on the streets!

I have the Superchips chip, and it made a huge difference in power, throttle response, and shifting. If I had to do it now, I would definitely get the programmer (it wasn't available way back in 2002 when I got the chip).

Superchip or edge, ive read that hypertech works better on the chevys, I like my 1715 superchip, Ive read it works the best with 91 oct or above and will equel out to
close to the price of 87 oct after you figure in the better gas milage and punch,,Ive mostly run the 87 tunes, But for towing perf, you need to run 91 oct ..humm I taught ide never see gas as high so Im going for the 91 oct and the tune, I dont drive my truck much mostly just on the wekends, Im fortunate to have a company truck, So Im splurging just a little bit with mods right now..The superchip tuner is easy and quick about 10 min, and you can feel the difference for sure..I just recalibrated my tire size up to 34.5 so Im good to go...+ 1 on superchip here...If I had a edge to try back to back it would be cool to see which one gives more performance and fuel milage...

yea ive heard that the superchips is very good for towing and in the sumer i tow a 5000lb boat w/trailer and i was a little more power, but was also lookin for more low end torque when i take her off the paved roads. but this is also a daily driver so how would the 91 octane tune affect daily driving gas milage?

hell, it's so easy, i sometimes find myself running it again because it was too easy LOL.

seriously, you get in the truck, shut the door, turn everything off (sucks, i want to listen to CD's), plug in the OBD2 connector, it scans for trouble codes, then asks you if you want to program the truck, you say yes, then it asks step by step what you want to do, you say yes or no, or increase/decrease parameters, then it loads, key off, key on, drive like hell.

have you checked the site out? the only thing i haven't done (due to posts on here and bobistheoilguy.com is change to a 180* stat)
http://www.hypertech.com/programmer.html

you can correct speedo due to tire size changes, top speed, etc.

I changed to 93 Octane (you CAN tell a difference between that and 87), inscreased the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts by 300 RPM's and increased the redline by 400 RPMS....the shifts are much firmer and I firmly believe it will help save the tranny due to less TC slippage.

In addition, every time I've emailed Hypertech a stupid question (or to counter some website BS like a Part #, etc) they get back to me very quickly and they truly do believe in their product and I think they have great R&D.

Superchips, don't know anything about them, but I've heard good things.

Rsvystr, It good the hypertech is working, Ive read It really works on the chevys, and most like the the superchip and edge for fords, I almost got one But the place I got mine from 4 years ago reccomended the superchip, a freind of mine has the hypertech on his duramaxx and said its crazy power, but thats a deisel..alot of the other sites it seems that way, your one of the first Ive seen that uses the hypertech on the ford, there all close, Ive heard the diablo is good as well..

i see..looks like its gonna end up being my call, got alot of good feedback from both brands. i was leaning towards the superchips in the begining but ive heard hypertech gives more power but superchips gives more torque. im gonna combine both, haha!

Ever thought about a set of gears? They will give you a better seat-of-the-pants performance gain than any chip/tuner could dream of...

Ive got a hypertech 170 degrees thermastat, I tried the 5.4l did not like it, sucked gas run way to rich, finally threw a code engine temps to low, for closed loop system, Im getting ready to post my jet chip which works good for mid to top end power and torque, stoped useing it due to getting the superchip tuner fits 2001 5.4L, the hypertech thermastat, a complete K&N series 57 filter, it does not have the heat sheild, which makes a huge differance, and the tornado on ebay for cheap as a combo package..Ive had the stuff for years and Im wanting to get the E-FANS for my truck, and possible gears soon....What do you folks think of the E-Fans, do they really help pump out 15 to 20 ponies, plus lets your engine run cooler..
