Heater Door Problems

97 F150 4.6

When AC is turned on it blows cold and then a thump is heard and the heater starts blowing. I can adjust the selector to blow to the defrost, occupant vents, and to the floor but it continues to blow hot air. I just had the heater core replaced and the problem started after it was replaced, I never had this problem before. The mechanic stated he does not know what the problem is or how to fix it. I took the truck to another shop and they advised me that the heater core may have been installed incorrectly and they would charge me a minimum of $480 to find the problem. I don't want to take the truck back to the original mechanic. If anyone knows anything about this problem I would be more than glad to try it. Thanks.

has to be the heater core blocked, or not hooked up right, or not put in right, or doors are obstructed, or vacuum line is off or cracked.

take heater core out and observe the doors working or not.

the heater hoses should be this way:

the hose that goes from thermostat housing is the right one, drivers side, on the heater core.

this is from ford manual. and matches my 94 4.9 truck.

Thanks for the response. I contacted original mechanic and he advised it's the door between the evaporator and the heater core. Now I'm trying to figure out why it slamming shut and causing the hot air to blow.
