I recently have been hearing a sort of grinding or rubbing noise when I turn my truck to the left. I removed my mudflaps thinking they may be grinding worse than they use to due to 285 tires. I do not get the noise when turning the truck to the right and the left turn doesn't even have to be a deep turn. I have looked and see nothing binding or rubbing that would cause the sound. Just wondering if anyone has had similar issues and what was the culprit? thanks

Is it coming from the front? Have you checked your wheel bearings? How many miles on your truck? IF it's near or past 60k, service calls for some bearing maintenance steps. 60,000 miles Change engine oil and replace oil filter
Inspect tires for wear and measure tread depth
Rotate tires
Inspect engine air filter minder, replace filter as required
Replace engine- and frame-mounted fuel filters
Inspect steering linkage, suspension and, if equipped, driveshaft and ball joints
Inspect engine cooling system and hoses
Inspect brake system
Inspect exhaust system and heat shields
Change automatic transmission fluid and external filter element
Change manual transmission fluid
Check wheels for end play and noise
Lubricate 4x4 hub needle bearings
Lubricate 4x2 wheel bearings
Replace wheel bearing grease seals
Inspect and lubricate 4x2 ball joints (except ~F-450/F-550)
Inspect and lubricate steering idler arms Diesel Supplement page: 53
The next to last item says to lube ball joints. I have a 2005 F-250 and there are no zerks on the ball joints. This is also in Ford's multi-point check that they say they do during certain servicing. I think that this is one of the money making checks for them since you cannot do it. Correct me if I am wrong.
I have an 04 4x4 @ 60K had the front end service done. needle bearing, 4 new ball joints, and new hub on the drivers side and it still does it, but not every time.

No ford ball joints that I know of have fittings... I'm not too sure it's a scheme so much as it is poor technical writing. In general terms, this is sound maintenance. In reality, you can only inspect the joints, so inspect them well! Do a hanging control arm check on the bottoms. Your looking for excessive run-out on the *****. To me, any is too much...
Hold on... 2wd or 4wd?
so has anyone figured this out because mine just started making this noise when i turn to the left
2 or 4wd? Maybe it's just the 60k maintenance alarm? LOL these truck are heavy, so I'll have to guess the wheel bearings need the TLC on scheduled. But to your question, no, there have been no definitive responses to my knowledge.
4x4.. no there is only 50000 kilometers on it.. the front end on mine is a complete POS. it was totally rebuilt at 200km, bearings and vaccum seals twice since then. i have a feeling that this truck is going to be a nightmare when the warranty is up
Mine has been doing this on and off as well. Seems to be getting worse lately. What I noticed is it happens more if I am going a little faster around a turn and hit a bump as well. I'm almost out of my base warranty (93 miles to go) but bought the extended when I purchased the truck new in 05. Going to set up an appointment with the dealer today.
The best way I can describe mine is a screech while turning. It's the ball joint's. Ford replaced my right side one under warranty last summer when I had the same noise. Now it's back, probably the left side one. They factory one's are junk. I just can't endure the extra expense of replacing them w/ Moog's or Napa's right now, so I guess I'll let them replace mine under warranty again.

When I use to do the joint on my F150 ROCKET-SHIP, Moog joints were $2.00 more than Ford parts. But if your going under warranty, that's not an option. IF your doing this yourself, get the good stuff. You'll at least have the option of giving them som greese now and again!
