ok i just bought an 88 bronco , 302 engine 4x4 , my fuel gauge doesnt work how can i test it? i got the manual on it but it makes no mention of it. im prolly gonna be on here quite abit, juat advance warning lol
Do a search for "fuel gage" I remember a post on here somewhere that helped me troubleshoot my problem. Usually it's the sender or the float. Good luck with your new project.
the fuel gauges themselves rarly fail. I have that same bronco and it was the sending unit on the pump, i went to ford and got the complete pump, sender, float assembly for $120. most auto parts stores dont sell this complete setup.
when i pulled it out i found the sender of course bad and the float had fuel in it.
If you unplug the wire from on top of the tank and ground it out the gauge should move. this will tell ya. make sure you have little to no fuel in the tank if you do have to drop it. the job isnt bad just a bit time consuming.
Yep, sender or complete assy from Ford, you can find pump at other auto parts stores........before the tank drop, do more troubleshooting first, like fuse, wiring, conections, ...etc.
