I towed my 18 foot car trailer that weighs something like 1500 lbs, with my 91 4x4 supercab shortbox truck, with that truck's box filled with stuff, behind my 97. So Im pretty sure, a car dolly and a lumina would have been just peachy!
For what it's worth, if you go to www.uhaul.com and go throught the motions of renting a trailer ("Your vehicle pulling your vehicle), they pop up a little calculator for you to put in your tow and towed vehicle. Putting in a 1993 Ford "F1/F100/F150" supercab 2wd pulling a Lumina sure enough kicks back "you tow vehicle does not weigh enough ..." that I'm guessing your guy was quoting.
Also, seems the Fairhaven place is out of the U-haul business. I was in for gas the othernight and they were telling a would-be customer that U-haul is just renting space there to store their excess units. Not sure but see some more stuff on 22nd St near Ave F?G?H? so operation may have moved there?

Interestingly enough a 1993 2wd Chev 1/2 ton also gets thumbs down but a 1/2 t 2wd Suburban is OK by their calc!

that is what the guy was going by crerar. but it is so stupid if i threw 1000 pounds of crap in the box it would be heavy enough comman sense that it ain't going make it any safer towing 4000 pounds. i could see if i came in there with a little 1/4 ton truck but a f150 is more than capable.according to their specs i would need a f250.
last year i pulled my 80 trans am on a dolly with my 92 caravan the same distance it was a work out for the van but it did it.
