speedo trouble

My speedo quit working while driving down the road and my cruise control wouldnt work either. On my trip back it never quit and the cruise worked. What would cause this? first problem ive noticed with the speedo. its a 99.5 f-350 6spd. thanks for any help

Vehicle speed sensor on the rear pumpkin, Try removing it and cleaning it if it occurs again.

thanks amiller93 I know i unplug it,does it just screw out with regular threads

i would go ahead and replace it. i did on my 2000 f350 when it gave me trouble. pick one up @ dealership for around $35. one bolt holds it in & a electrical connector. simple replacement

Were you under the hood near the drivers side? The plug at the end of the mastercylinder might have been bumped. Thats what mine did then it worked fine. Also check the 30 amp fuse under the dash. Mine was going bad ( hard to believe) but time and vibration was causing a loose connection. Why I know, 511k miles across the United States over and over again.

You can get a new VSS sensor, top of rear end from Napa for $10.49.. they called it a ABS sensor and the P/N is 530780. Fixed my problem about a year ago.. (see napaonline.com )
