I got a response from joblot already, they say if I do in fact have an early build they have a kit for me. Now my question is, as long as I have the rear axle E brake setup the truck is an early build correct? They said the brakes are totally different early to late build and he gave me some specs for the wheel cylinders but I do not have them out to look at. I also don't have the build date off hand and will find that.

Rear Brake Drums/Wheel Cylinders F3

1948/51: 8Y-1126 .. 14.00" I.D. / 2 15/32" Brake Drum Width

1948/51: 92Y-2261 .. Wheel Cylinder .. 1 3/8" Diameter

1948/51: 91T-2221 .. Wheel Cylinder Kit .. 1 3/8" Diameter
----------------------------------------------------------------------
1951/52: TBAA-1126 .. 12.00" I.D. / 2 13/32" Brake Drum Width

1951/52 .. 1D-2261-A Right Cyl. / 1D-2262-A Left Cyl. / 1 1/8" Diameter

1951/52 .. 8M 2221-A Replaced by >> C8UZ-2221-A.. Wheel Cylinder Kit 1 1/8" Diameter

My previous post # 8 above listed the wrong wheel cylinder kits for the cylinders I listed~I should have turned the page~I regret the error.

Unlike the later models, I could find no serial number break in 1951 designating when the change was made.

Ebay Wheel Cylinders

I just purchased a complete front and rear brake package from Concours. It includes shoes front and back, 4 new cylinders, all springs, clips etc along with 3 new brakes hoses. It was $249. I also ordered a new MC and then from Jegs got their Carbon Steel DIY brake line kit. Hopefully this will get me stopping soon.

Apparently the break in VIN plates is on 9/15/51, not sure if that is also when they changed the brakes. In todays world that is incredibly late for a '51 MY, but I don't know about back then.

BTW I checked with NAPA and they can get the up tp '50 wheel cylinders and they can get '51 F4 rear cylinders and front rebuild kits, IIRC. They didn't have anything listed for '51 F3's though.

At least my '48 F1 won't be this much trouble

I assume you have the early brakes. The rear wheel cylinders 92Y-2261 for the early F3 brakes are also used on the front of: 1948/50 F4; F5; F6; & F5/F6 Cabovers.

Hi all just thought I would let you know that I have just received a full set of hoses from the guy in Argentina, and they are very good (exactly the same as the originals).
They have only taken about 7 days for shipping to the UK as well.
I cant fault the service or the brake hoses at all.
ps I had best say hi as well as this is my first post on this site. I am Paul, and I have just recently bought a 1951/52 Ford F3. I plan to get this up and running and use it as my daily transport (give me a chance to build the motor in my rod).
I must also say that this site have been extremely helpfull , along with Bob (fatfenderedfords) , who also put me in touch with you guys.
Thanks to all.

I just received my wheel cylinder rebuild kits from Luchonota. Wrong size for 51. He advertises 48-52 which is incorrect I now know. Luciano is a very nice person to deal with and it looks like the brake hoses are a fit and decent quality. I got the stuff in 10 days which is not too bad from Argentina to Washington. Now if only I can find rebuild kits for the 1 1/4 bore cylinders. Does anyone know if they used 1 3/8 on the rear in 51? I don't want to pull them to find out cause if it ain't broke don't TOUCH it!

You could just buy new ones from Job Lot. The entire brake kit, four wheel cylinders, master cylinder and three brake hoses are $250. I don't remember what the wheel cylinders alone are but I would guess in the $25 range.

I have seen the hoses advertised by the Argentina guy on eBay and always wondered what the quality is like. The price is right.

I tried Joblot before buying off eBay. They had only the kit. Green Sales said they had only the left front. I was going to buy two even if I was just going to use one for the internals. Then I saw the smokin deal on eBay. I'm wondering now if the left front is the same as every other wheel. They just don't look position specific. Certainly the right front must be the same.

I have a four letter word for anyone looking for these parts. NAPA. I just ordered kits for the fronts for $7 each. If only I'd known then what we all know now.

I would be VERY hesitant to use any brake hoses that were not DOT approved. In some states that would fail safety inspection. If it doesn't matter to you, just take the old ones to any hydraulic hose assembler and have a new one made. Just don't use DOT3 fluid in the system.
