2004 electrical questions

Hi Guys, I just picked up a (new to me) 2004 CC Short bed 4X4 3.73 V-10 and have a couple of questions. I did a search and can't find the links for getting rid of the dang buzzers for key-in-ignition and lights on buzzer. Also the truck came with no key fobs for remote door unlock. Any way to check and see if the truck is equipped with this feature? Truck has power everything including tow package. Thanks in advance for replies. Tim

You have a CAN dash, so elimenating the buzer might have other side effects.

You might get some info off the VSM, on a 2002 it's located on the firewall below the radio.

Key in ignition is a black wire with a pink tracer inside the steering column. Some people cut it, or pull it out of the connector down by the pedals. I pulled the piece of plastic off the bottom of the steering column (3 screws and the tilt lever) and unhooked the wire at the ignition. I just put a piece of electrical tape around the connector and tied it up to the other wires and put everything back together. No more key in dinger.

The lights on dinger is a little more difficult to get rid of, but I do remember seeng it around here somewhere. Do a search.

Also, you didn't mention it, but the sequence for disabling the seat belt dinger is in your manual. It should be a sequence of buckling/unbuckling the seatbelt 10 times. I have found that 2 seconds buckled, 2 seconds unbuckled seems to be about the perfect pace to accomplish the sequence.

You can remove part of the buzzer function safely. Some people here have done a mod to make the buzzer not ding when the key is in, but it will still ding when the headlights are on. I can not remember the instructions exactly but just do a search and I am sure you will come up with something useful.

Under the steering colomn there are three screws that need to be removed. You will see a pink (I think it is pink, if I remember right) wire coming from the end of the key toumbler. It will be failry easy to see the wire on the end of where the key should go. Just cut the wire and tape the end back that is going down the colomn.

Hopefully someone will be along soon to just ok this and make sure that is EXACTLY how that mod should be done, but I think that is how I did mine...its been awhile, so I am having problems remembering...

Easiest way to find out is probably to try to program a remote to work. The programming procedure for your truck is in the owners guide. Or I will go ahead and post it too:
To program the keyless entry keypads remote entry transmitters yourself:

1. Ensure the vehicle is electronically unlocked.
2. Put the key in the ignition.
3. Turn the key from the 2 (LOCK) position to 3 (OFF).
4. Cycle eight times rapidly (within 10 seconds) between the 3 (OFF) position and 4 (ON). Note: The eighth turn must end in the 4 (ON) position.
5. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that the programming mode has been activated.
6. Within 20 seconds, program the keyless entry keypad by pressing the 7•8 and the 9•0 controls at the same time.
7. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that the keypad programming mode has been activated.
8. Within 20 seconds, program the remote entry transmitter by pressing any button on the transmitter. Note: If more than 20 seconds have passed you will need to start the procedure over again.
9. The doors will again lock, then unlock, to confirm that this remote entry transmitter has been programmed.
10. Repeat Step 8 to program each additional remote keypad or entry transmitter.
11. Turn the ignition to the 3 (OFF) position after you have finished programming all of the remote entry transmitters. Note: If more than 20 seconds have passed you will need to start the procedure over again.
12. The doors will once again lock, then unlock, to confirm that the programming mode has been exited.

Pretty much if you do steps 1-4 and step 5 happens then your truck has remote entry.
