Wiper Issues

85 F 150 4X4 XLT Lariat
Intermitten wipers not working right.
Wipers work great when turned on, but when you turn the switch off, wipers stop where ever they're at.
When on delay, they stop and go, not making full sweep; Like on 1 second delay, wipers move and then stop for 1 second, then start again.
Switch,Delay Governer,Wiper Motor. Any suggestions??

If I recall, there is a capacitor in the motor that is supposed to power them after you turn them off to be able to park them. Most likely it has failed... I hate replacing the whole unit for one little piece like that... Mine runs slow, but haven't gotten around to replacing it yet...

I removed my wiper-motor and took it apart.

There are a couple rivets that will have to be drilled out and replaced with small machine-screws.

The motors are extremely simple, with few parts.

I cleaned the armature, cleaned/lubed the tracks the brushes ride in, and re-assembled.

It works like new and I didn't spend a cent.

Thanks, have to look into it, when I can slow down long enough on the home projects...
