If you look in the owners manual under towing capacities. I believe you will be way over the weight rating for the truck specs. My 93 as listed in signature is rated at 9500. But it is really working to tow my 30 ft trailer. Remember the weight of trailer from the factory is just your trailer not the stuff the wife puts in it. Plus you need to add the stuff in the truck as well. (people, dogs, etc.) My wife adds about 1500lbs to the listed weight when all the (have to have things are in the trailer). I checked this on a certified scales right next door one day. She was not happy for me to check. This is why I got our 6.0 listed.

Has the e40d been upgraded, specifically the torque converter? The factory ones tend to be on the weak side when abused. I haven't had first hand experience, but others have posted about this in the past.
Other issues you'll likely encounter eventually are air intrusion into the fuel (return) lines, and glow plugs failing. Both are not huge issues, but they can be frustrating in some cases.
