Power Questions.

Hi, I am new here this is my first time posting on here. You all have been alot of help just reading the posts everybody has wrote. I have a '95 PSD and some times it runs great has great power but then other times it feels verry sluggish and runs like a dog. I dont have any mods yet. this is my first diesel but love it. when i feel that it's the most sluggish i can here an exaust cant tell where it is coming from because i can only here it when there is a little strain on the motor not just at idle. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Question

Your description is kinda vague. If you provide more specific information, like:

1) When does the problem happen? Towing, freeway driving, in-town driving.
2) What kind of exhaust are you hearing/feeling?
3) When was the last time the oil was changed? Is the level low?

I'm sure with more specific information, some of the more experienced diesel owners can guide you in the right direction.

Good luck, and Welcome.

I'd wait to hear from somebody around here that knows way more than me, but I had a very similar problem, and my issue was a malfunctioning exhaust back pressure valve. The fix was real easy....disconnect it.

The only difference in symptoms was that I was getting a real heavy whooshing sound when I was losing power.

Give it a few minutes and one the the locals will chime in and get you back on the road.

mklemin,
I'm new to these trucks as well. Mine is a 97 and sometimes it just didn't seem to have what it had the day before so I started looking and found this site and couple of others.
In last two weeks I've put in the 6637 air filter (aka Kwik Filter), replaced the cam position sensor (cps) and cleaned the Fuel Pressure Regulator screen. My truck is way different now. All of those fixes are very easy to do and cheap. Filter and parts came to about $50 from NAPA and a hardware store, cps was $58 on ebay and the fpr screen cost nothing but 10 minutes of my time. Don't know if any of those will help you but a new cps sure seems to clear up a lot of power/running problems for people on this site.
<a href="http://pages.prodigy.net/stevebaz/_import/pages.prodigy.net/stevebaz/index3.html">FPR screen is on this page.</a>
I don't have a link for the other two but they should be easy to find by searching this forum.

Ok it happens all of the time sometimes rite when i leave after a long drive pullin a trailor, all of the time. the exaust leak sounds like on possibly where one of the donut gaskets would be that kind of sound but it doesnt happen all of the time, and i can only hear it when i am driving and passing something like another car or along the gardrail.i still have a thousand miles on my oil change. I am pretty sure its not the EBPV because i could hear it.
10 bands i think i will try that, thatv sounds like sound advice and it cant hurt to replace old parts

thanks
