computer flash?
Is it bad for a dealer to flash your trucks computer if it is running fine? I am wondering if my dealer flashed my truck to try to get rid of or cover up a knocking problem I am having with my 5.4. I am wondering how the flash effects timing?

If you had a "knock" are you talking about a detonation (ping) issue. If you the back off the timing thus, losing power. I have had a detonation problem for a while now. I dont want to take it to the dealer for fear of power loss.
In general I tell the dealership never to reflash my truck. Sometimes they will do it even if you bring it in for a oil change and there is a update by Ford and they relfash it.

There is nothing wrong with having the latest calibration uploaded to the ECM. If your worried about power, I'd suggest getting a tuner. Just be sure to return your ECM to stock when going back to a dealership, so if the calibration changes your tuner will still be allowed to right to it.

5.4 gasser mileage
Hi newby here i have 04 f250 sc 5.4 gasser and 6.mpg around town?....somthing has to be wrong i havent had it back to dealer yet it has 51k on it. I am wondering if possibly someone programed computer with performance and never removed it?... How will i know if this happened? Dealer?.. It is awesome truck but cheese and rice its a pig.....has k&n and flowmaster on it now no change. Any suggestions?....programmer? Which one is best? Thanks

6 mpg indicates you have a problem. The ECM would have to dump fuel into the cylinders to get that bad of mileage. I'd start by checking for vacuum leaks, then exhaust leaks. Then go the o2 sensors, and double check the odometer is working correctly.
