There is a place here called Hi Strength Bolt company that sells cable and the ends that are crimped on. I understand that most fastener supply houses sell these items. The cable also comes in a clear poly ( plastic ) coated version. When my mickie mouse ( no offense Walt ) Pro's Pick straps start to go, I will most likely try this way. Seems easy and lo cost. I would not sit on a gate with the PP strap by the way.
Bobby, there is a boat house at Cochiti that has cable, take a "Fishin Day" and scope it out. Jon
Hmmm, I guess I must have the Popeye version of the Pros-Pick straps instead of the Micky Mouse ones. I sit on mine for lunch and frosty beverages. Yes, they stretch a little but I have seen no signs of failure.
I have seen others use cables from later model pickups as well.
There is a pretty cool looking setup that uses a scissor-style chromed folding restraint on each side, that looks like the brace on a card table leg. EdsF100 used them, but has no pic of it in his gallery. Maybe someone else has a pic and source for them.
what are the brackets you used to mount the cables to the tailgate?
Right you are. This thread is almost 20 years old, so a few of us have passed on. I'm still kicking but sold my truck in 2012 and don't remember much about the Prospick latches.

did you make the bracket that mounts the cable to the tailgate? How did you make it?
