Alright some of you know whats been going on w/ my 89 F250hd w/ 460 but now I have replaced the ign switch, actuator cam, solenoid, key cylinder and she still wont start but she finally comes out of park just have to jump the solenoid to get er' goin so now what should I do???? Should I just install the good ol' push button or what?? any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks in advance talk at yall soon....
Hate to say this pal but I'd suspect a harness problem. Sounds like the equipment in the cab is all pretty new....you're getting action from the solenoid to the starter...so the problem is between the key and the solenoid IMO.
Keep in mind, I'm just a good ol' boy truck owner...not a REAL mechanic. Good luck Dude!
You need to fix the problem. Using a push button is a Bubba fix.
On the starter relay/solenoid is a small gauge wire that pushes on a stud
on the relay/solenoid. The solenoid/relay closes when 12 volts is on that wire.
The 12 volts comes from the ignition switch when the ignition key is placed in
start.
From the ignition switch the 12 volts must first pass thru the Neutral Safety switch if you have a automatic trans. or must pass thru the Clutch Safety switch if you have a manual trans. before the 12 volts gets to that wire on the solenoid.
You've eliminated everything except the wiring and the Safety switch.
Here's the schematic for a 88. Your 89 should be similar.
With a multimeter by measuring resistance and voltage you should beable to fix the problem. You can purchase a decent digital meter from Radio Shack for $50.00 or less.
