Exclamation PATS problem

This is my first time posting here. I have a 2002 F150 Harley, but my buddy at work has a 99 Expedition that he is having a problem with. I read quite a few posts on various pats and anti theft problems, but need some closure. Here's the deal: he just started having this problem this weekend. He went to crank the truck and the anti theft was blinking fast. He went back inside and decided to try it later. Went back out and tried again, after turning it off and on a few times, the light went off and it cranked. All was good till yesterday, he was going home and it started blinking while driving and shut the engine off. We checked fuses, and tried both keys. Fuses are all good, and it happens with both keys. Can the pats antenna/receive be intermittent like this? I would think it would either work or not. We just unhooked the battery, we are going to see if that resets the computer and if it takes care of it. If you have had similar problems or have suggestions, please let me know!
