My highpressure side on the power steering was leaking up top by the unit so i boughta new one from azone. Now i cant get the lower spot to seal on the high pressure line. The one that goes into the gearbox. There arent any O rings on this line and am wondering what i should do. Any ideas or could i use a gasket type sealer and goop it on there b4 i tighten it down. IM at a loss. ITs an 89 B2 4x4 2.9ltr.
ONe more question ive seen some power steering pump anti/leak fluid. Usually this stuff is a quick fix but think its worth a try? Looks alot thicker then the normal psteering oil.
When I replaced mine (bout 4 yrs) ago I remember they had the o-rings with the new pump. I would see if where you got the pump if they were supposed to include if not just buy new ones.
I just replaced both lines on my 88. There was an o-ring on the upper high pressure line. The bottom was a flare fitting. If there was dirt that dropped in the flare fitting or it was cross threaded you will have problems with the seal. The instructions with my hoses said to lube the fittings and threads with powers steering fluid. I was told type F tranny fluid was the correct fluid to use in my 88. I just dipped the lower end of the preasure line in the bottle of fluid and installed snug. The low pressure line I just removed the clamps on the rubber portion. Cut new hose to lenth. Then after conecting the lower high preasure hose installed the new low pressure rubber hose. Then dipped the upper end on the high pressure hose in the bottle and install the oil ring and made sure the o-ring had plenty of fluid on it so it would slip in and seal with out tearing. Checked fittings a second time for tightness. Then filled with fluid. No problems so far.
