From what I've heard, and understand Volant is the best CAI for these trucks.

AEM has the dryflow filter that requires no oil to get on the maf. K&N let in as much dirt as it does air.

I guess that would depend on IF you prefer an enclosed filter over an open filter. Some of the open filters produce more hp on the dyno than the enclosed filters but some people prefer enclosed filters.

This is true, thats why I like the AEM, it's a good quality piece with the dryflow cone filter. The heat sheilds seals to the bottom of the hood. I have the k&n intake with the AEM filter, only because AEM doesn't make an intake for the 04 4.0 yet, but when they do, it will be on there. I have the AEM cai on my focus st and love it, it was good for 8 hp at the wheels with no other mods at the time. It's a true cai as the filter is located outside of the engine bay. On truck applications they are not, but with a 4x4 thats a good thing, you want the filter protected when stream crossing and such. AEM, volant or airaid would be better than k&n. I've used k&n for years without a problem, but the more I read, the more I tend to stay away as they do very poorly in test as far as keeping out dirt, they just don't filter well. They do however get 5 stars for airflow, but the whole point to a filter is to keep dirt out, not just let air in. AEM was ranked very high for filteration and airflow, along with aimsoil and airaid, k&n and s&b did the worst. They didn't test volant. This test was in the nov edition of jp mag. Bob Ayres also has alot of information on k&n filters and testing, he's a member here and hangs out on the ranger forum, he's on the members list if you want further information on k&n.

I went with the Volant on my 05 Fx4. I've had 2 other CAI. I wanted true cold air. Most of my driving is on the interstate so I got the air tube that comes out through the bumper around the toe hook, the air box itself is huge. I have not seen dyno results that say open is better than closed they are all close in numbers. With RAM air tube on the Interstate I can deffinately feel an increase this CAI is loud though. JLT & SCT have got together to offer a CAI & custom tune which is needed with this setup, IMO this might be the best one, they have done a lot of testing with their intake and under hood temps check this site for JLT.

Volant. it's a little loud though when you romp on the motor. actually, it's extremely loud. I've been looking for some good stiff sound deadening material to line the inlet of my air box with and wrap the intake tube. hoping that will cut the noise down when I stomp on it.

Talking Volant

Try Dynomat for sound reduction. I like my Volant as is;no noise unless I romp down on the accelerator.I was attracted to Volant because of the closed air box, only external air supplied to MAF sensor. Did not purchase the ram air tube.

Why yes I do, www.jusnesmodified.com and they are also a sponsor here. But still think you should buy the AEM so you don't have to oil the filter. Jusnes sells both and k&n for that matter.

not sure what you mean...look at my gallery, I've got install pics of it in there. The closed box looks really nice IMO

got mine from Bob Jusnes, a site sponsor. a little over $250 I think.

The only problem with oiled filters is when people over oil the filter after cleaning it.So I wouldn't worry about using an oiled filter.I've been using them on my hotrods for 18 years and they have very sensitive MAFs too.

Yeah, but AEM is better than volant, the oilless filter was just a nice way of putting it ha ha. Volant is a good system as well, just having a little fun.
