I just bought a VERY nice pampered 95 Super Duty with a 460, it has a exhaust leak, well to my searching, these are prone to break manifolds and bolts, but most I have found have been in motorhomes?
It has a exhaust leak under the hood for sure. It has 78k miles. I see no manifold bolts broke off?, and I can not locate the leak visually?
Did I make a mistake buying this truck, do they all ruin the heads. This is such a nice truck???
Im worried, I can not find a broken manifold bolt?, or a crack, any help.

maybe the gasket just went. id see if i could pull the manifolds off and check them over for cracks, then get a new gasket set and put them back on if they check out... if they come out cracked then its time to upgrade to headers
what better reason to upgrade than to fix a factory flaw?

I thought the EFI 460 didnt have manifold gaskets? I dont know, I have never pulled them off, but I remember reading that here on the board.
I agree it would be an excellent excuse to add headers though
It went in the shop this morning, both manifolds are leaking, they went to the machine shop today also, he said they will go back on without gaskets and it should last 5 years or so, he hopes. Most do, I guess. Anyway thinks for the help EVERYONE.

Don't be surprised by the extra charges for repairing broken manifold bolts.
You're right about the gaskets and the manifolds warp so that's the reason for going to the machine shop. I don't use "gaskets" but I do use the heat shields that have a raised bead around exhaust ports...they help keep the heat off the plug wires on the motorhome.
