common problems

I have a friend who has a 99 7.3 and the torque convertor and then at 140xxx miles the pistons became mis shaped and causes the engine to lose compression. Is this a common problem with these motors or is it a fluke because the farm i work on has a 2000 7.3

The TC are a weak link but internal motor problems are rare. For the pistons to deform there must have been some pretty high combustion temps, does he have any mods?

As amiller93 replied, torque converter yes as a weak link. Internal engine problems rare unless horribly abused.
