While traveling at Interstate speeds on I-40 between Raleigh and Greensboro NC my 04 PSD sputtered several times while climbing some of the rolling hills in that area. I was towing a small 6X12 trailer which weighs about 2500 lbs. I had the cruise engaged and it almost sounds as if it were running out of fuel. Has anyone heard of someone having this problem? It runs perfect at 55 to 60 and even higher up around 80mph. It's just when it is under a load it does this??? Need input. Will reluctantly take it in to the dealer this week but it won't do it again unless they load the truck. Help
I changed the filters about 3K miles ago. The sputtering only happens when the motor is under a load such as climbing hills. I had it locked on cruise control today heading back to the coast from Greensboro and for 20 miles or so at 78 plus mph it ran great. It's only when the motor is under a load this happens. I fueled up on the coast and it did perfect until I got in the rolling hills yesterday. When I left Greensboro today and headed back it sputtered a few times while in the hills but when I got on level asphalt it did great.
The truck sputtered again this evening on the way home from work so I stopped by the dealer and they put it on their computer. What they found is a faulty EGR valve. My question the FTE members is "what will a bad EGR valve make the motor do?" It sputters as if it almost cuts off for just a fraction of a second several times in a row. When it's doing it's thing it feels heavy on the gas pedal and there feels like it's a loss of power? I drop it off Wednesday afternoon for repair I just hope that really is the problem. Any thoughts?
mine is doing the same exact thing. i took it in and they said it was the turbo. so that got replaced. next day it was still doing the same thing. so i took it back. they cleaned the EGR valve, and then noticed that my intake (tube behind the filter) is for an 05 and my truck is an 04. (thanks to idiot previous owner) there is a plug sitting there that has nothing to plug into. they said it's for the MAF sensor or something. i've got a new part on order. once that gets in ill have em recheck it.
