PCM Programming
I have a 2000 Ford Explorer 2WD with a 4.0 OHV Engine and 163,000 miles on it. The VIN doesn't specify what transmission is in the vehicle so I assume there is a specific transmission that goes with this engine...(what is it?) There used to be a transmission code in the VIN years ago. It has a 3 speed automatic with O/D.
Now for the dumb question: I live in Palo Alto, CA now but I am from Indianapolis, IN and I haven't gotten it out of my system completely. Is there some pcm flash programmer for my vehicle that has one big button with "RACE" on it?
My last car was a 1980 Ford Fairmont and I kind of miss turning wrenches under the hood now but maybe that is best because it took me a little more time than I would care to admit to discover that I don't even have a distributer to advance.
Thanks Guys!

E = SOHC 4.0L 6 cyl.
X = OHV 4.0L 6 cyl.
In 2000 the SOHC 6 cyl. was matched with the 5R55E 5 speed auto tranny.
The OHV 6 cyl. was matched with the 4R70W 4 speed auto tranny.
Thanks buddy, I really appreciate your reply. Those 2 transmissions are what I kept running across but I had no clue as to which was what. So I am the proud owner of a 4R70W. Do you happen to know the history of this transmission? Is it a good one or should I be scared? I'm not crazy about the lazy way it shifts sometimes....
