I'm new here so I've got a lot of questions. I've recently added 22's to my 04 truck which will be on only in the warmer weather. I have stock 17's for the bad weather months. I definatly need to upgrade my brakes, but most upgrade kits I've seen to handle the 22's need an 18" minimum rim. Hense my dilemma. I don't what to get rid of my stock rims and I don't plan on changing out my brake upgrade every Fall.Does anyone have a solution for this one? Thanks F-150SUPERCAB
Are the tires on the 22's taller than what's on the 17's? If the tire diameter is near the same, the brakes won't work any differently between the two. If the tires are significantly taller, then sure, a brake upgrade would probably be a good idea.
It seems you're pretty well stuck between the proverbial rock and hard place. Is buying a set of OE 18's and selling the 17's an option?
Unless you do a lot of towing of heavy loads you may not need to upgrade your brakes. There are a lot of people running 22s on stock brakes. Also the Harley Davidson F150 comes with 22s.I know of a couple guys on another forum running 24s on stock brakes.
Just don't tow real heavy loads and do some testing to see if or how much your stopping distance increases.
Thanks for the 411. My stock O.D. is 98" and my 22's are only 102". I guess I'll take both your advise and just go easy until I feel them out. I don't tow anyways. Thanks
