It is a pinging sound. Sometimes know as spark knock. It is a rattling/knocking kind of sound. You would hear it. Sometimes it's faint, sometimes loud. It is not good. It is when the air/fuel mixture lights off somewhere other than the spark plug, then when the spark plug fires, the two flame fronts collide. It is hard on pistons and head gaskets.

Well, the reason I asked was because yesterday I was driving my truck pretty hard and something happened. I pulled out onto the hwy in normal fashion with my fairly heavy foot. After the truck shifted into 2nd I noticed traffic was still catching up pretty fast so I slammed the pedel and the truck down shifted. When It did of course the RPM's shot up. When the RPM's were just about topped out the engine hit a dead spot just like every cylinder failed to fire. Then it shifted back to 2nd. I do have a superchips tune on it and run 93 octane in it. I didn't know what detonation sounded like but though it might be possible. It wasn't the first time this has happened, but it's always under similar circumstances. Any ideas what could have happened?
