Hi, we need help. Our brake lights will not work on our 1990 Ranger. We have changed the bulbs, fuses, brake switch and flasher switch. We have checked the wiring but still can not get power to the brake lights. All other lights work. Any ideas on what else we can check or do?
Do your tail lights work? That includes the license plate lights. If not, check the electrical connector underneath the bed at the left rear corner - it could be corroded or coming apart.
Is it possible that you have a problem with the connector located on the frame at the rear of the box? Possibly a ground problem?
Very common. But, your brake light and running light share a common bulb, do they not? Double filament bulb. #1-Did you change your bulb with the right bulb? #2-Trace the lead back to the each connector in the wireing until you find a 12V reading with the brake pedal depressed.
If it's a double filament bulb, the ground is obviously ok because the other filament lights up. For tracing the hot lead back to the brake pedal switch, you'll need a wiring diagram so that you can see which pin in each connector is for the brake lights.
Before you get into that, find, disconnect and clean all connectors in the harness.
