recipe for 390
So i am building a 390 for my f100 for street use and some on the track 2 wd auto (c6) I figure on a edelbrock rpm intake, 625 4 barrel carb hooker headers about a 280 comp cam and lifters. I understand from reading on here that I am better off spending money on putting 10:1 flat top pistons in and port and polish my stock heads than leave stock pistons in and putting performance cast heads on.Aset of heads will run me $1000 here and I can probably redo the bottom and pistons for this. Is this a good interpertation. PLease note that it has a fairly fresh rebuild in stock mode currently. I would appreciate any body that experience in this.

You're on the right track. Go with the 4 bbl pistons for the 66-up cars, these are the 10 to 1's. As for the heads, not much needed there, they're all good, not restricted like the other Ford V8 engine familes were. I'd go bigger on the carb though, a 625 will limit the top end. I use a Holley list 3310 750 cfm carb for this.
