How many catalytic converters are on an 86 F-150 300-6 4spd 4x2? Its carb not efi if that helps...and also if i were to just exit the exhaust before the rear wheel pointing outside of the truck would that make it a bit quieter than just exiting under the bed?
My 86 stepside 300/6 has 1 cat on it. I don't know if there is any advantage with exiting the pipe before the rear tire. I have a muffler on mine, and that makes it real quiet.
well the guy my dad bought the truck from yesterday said the muffler fell off but when we look under it...it seems there is one on there...like a cat and a muffler or maybe 2 cats...i dont know heres a link to its cardomain page i just made today http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2596751
Is it your intention to have the quietest exhaust system possible? Because, if it is, then having a muffler plus a catalytic converter with the exhaust exiting out the rear is the best setup. Omitting either the cat or the muffler (or both) and having the exhaust exit before the rear wheel on the drivers side is the loudest possible setup. I have this on one of my cars and I like it but it might drive me nuts on a long drive.
Like Dave said, when it exits under the truck it kind of echoes/reverberates making it louder. Simply running a pipe out from under the truck will help a lot.
yeah i was gonna send it from under the truck to the outside just to get it a bit quieter...not seeking the quietest exhaust, just one a lil quieter than it is
My rig had two original then the first one clogged up and the truck woudln't run properly so My mechanic at the time just removed it put piece of pipe in place. Strange though my emissions test actually pass better now than before.
