Question Winch?

Ok, I need a winch on my 79 Bronco, b/c I'm tired of waiting on tractors. The thing is I'm not sure what the best set up would be.
I'm looking for somthing in the 12,000 lb range(electric). I was thinking MileMarker, but I'm not set on anything.

Also I was going to upgrade batteries, but was wondering what would be the best thing to do. Right now I have dual batteries(basically autozone specials). I was thinking of getting one regular battery and the other one would be a Oddessy or Optima or somthing of the sort.

What would you guys do? Any thoughts or ideas appreciated.

From my experience with winches buy the largest and most powerful batteries you can get and they should be matched or at least equally powered batteries

Deep cycle or marine batteries work well they can take alot more than a standard battery

I have a 15,000 Warn on my superduty and had a 9000 Warn on a 150 with just stock batteries and haven't had a problem with either. i have pulled both myself and others out with no problem. the usual rule of thumb for a winch size is 1 1/2 times the weight of the truck. good luck on your decision.

With the batteries, I was thinking of just getting a regular battery to start the truck, and a big deep cycle battery for the winch both ran to the alternator to charge them(and possibly a bigger alternator). Just an idea
What are ya'll Ideas on mounting the winch to the front bumper?

Buy a mounting kit and cut the expanded steel to fit what I need???

Any battery you guys suggest?
How does a 12,000 lb milemarker winch for $550 shipped sound?

MMB, I have a MileMarker 12000 on my 79, and it has been awesome thus far. I run a single optima yellow top, with thoughts of going with a pair, but havent bothered as i have been alright so far. I did upgrade my alternator though, with my stereo, winch, and electric fan (this is the main culprit) i knew the best would be the 130 amp 3g alt. 550 shipped for a new MileMarker E12000? Is good, if its not new, you can get em from Summit racing for 600 and free shipping. Good luck buddy

Actually I was looking at a SE for that price.
What's the difference between the SE, SI, and E???
I already have dual batteries, but I might undo this set up and run either a optima or oddesy, depending.

Hmm, i havent looked at the others, so i cant offer anything there my friend. But if your running dual batts already, i wouldnt change to a single. Im unsure which way yours is setup, if your running the main truck stuff off of one, and accessories/starter off the other, or just running them in parallel, but if it were me, and i was thinking i had to have a new battery in that system, id go with a nice yellow top.

i have the SE12000. i like. it's done me well. pulled a friend in a k5 outta a frame deep mud hole with out bating an eye. I realy like the SI-12000 but i didn't have room for the integrated solenoid. Also... the remote on the E series is a lot nicer. has little lights indicating which direction the winch is going. the remote i have is just a double sided remote one with in and one with out.

maybe i'm getting the "series" mixed up. I have a SE1200 with the double sided. a budy of mine got a se8000 and it was set up completely dif. he had only two cables from the solenoid to the winch while mine has 3. he also has the cobra style remote while mine doesn't. he has an on/off rotating switch on his. and a "sliding" selector for in/out. mine has a 90degree metal roatting piece.

if i had the money hands down it'd be Odyssey 2250 http://www.odysseyfactory.com/docume...0-001_0905.pdf

and the 8274 has yet to let me down and i will recommend it until it ever lets me down (IF).

So would that work. One regular battery and one odyssey both being run parrallel together.

Also I was thinking of getting the one of the odyssey PC 1500s or 1700s. Seems like one of them would work, and they're around the $200 dollar range. That 2250 looks great, but at $400....

Also, how would ya'll set up a winch on the bumper in the pic in post #5?

not in parallel, you'd have to get a battery isolator and seperate them. THAT would work.

lol thats why i said if i had the money. the 1500 should do everything you need and its dry cell so it will last forever.

i've heard that recently (past couple of years) optimas quality has gone down the drain. google customer reviews if you are edging towards optimas just to be sure
