Ok, so on summit they have a billion headers... what i wana know is, for the same make model truck, and same engine (exlude painted headers) do you get what you pay for? and what is the difference in prices for? I mean i see more expencive headers with thinner flanges and thinner tubing.
Doug Thorley's when Doug still owned them before he sold out here, ordered 8 years ago in the raw not the chrome crap, (now sold with same name but different quality, lower) cleaned up, a little port matching then smoothed everything down before having them ceramic coated inside and out. granted not cheap but then a install and forget item for 20 years and 600K plus trouble free miles (copper header and collector gaskets). You gets what ya pays for on them cheapo brands that bite ya in the butt later but sooner than you thought they should of failed. JMO's.

So anyome know how the quality is of the Hooker super comps are? $405 a pr from Summit painted. I'm looking at a set of the 6114's for the Cougar. It's been a few years since I've looked into headers and it seems the prices have went up quite a bit?
Wow!! The ceramic coated version is $620! Dang!!
If I recall correctly most of the paint on headers is just for corrosion protection and not "good high temp" paint. So unless it states it is high temp plan on repainting them...JMO
Well they spec it has hi temp paint but I bet your right! I'll strip them and cleanup as needed then repaint. I've had good luck with the Hi temp 1500* paint from Duplo color. With good prep and lots of thin layers that paint was pretty durable. Jegs sells the painted 6114's for $399!! Woot!! I'll have to sell a few things first to get the cash for these. I missed a nice used set on ebay. Got sniped in the end by $1. LOL....
I had a set of used super comps from a 71 truck I parted out, they were in the yard for a year then into the trash can as the wife was getting PO'ed with my junk.
Just pulled a 70 CS home today that must go, engine runs, body straight but in primer, C-6 (condition?), disc brakes maybe for my 68.
Again wife starting to get PO'ed.
I have the Hooker Competition headers for my 75 f250 4x4 and they are great! I had to do some minor clearancing on they passenger side frame for them to fit right. I got them ceramic coated because I knew they would be VERY close to the starter and plus they look good. Oh yeah I also have to take the header off just to get the starter out! I think they were around 400 but you can defianetly feel a power change.

I have yet to see a FE motor with headers that you can remove Mr. Starter without moving the header out of the way, exception mud drag trucks with headers poking thru the hood.
With a butt band clamp on the header extension, copper header gasket with nickel anti-seize coated exhaust bolts it only takes 20 minutes to remove the starter after years of use. Installation is just as fast then your back on the road, this happened to me on a road trip.
Ceramic coating the inside will about double heat retention in the header reducing header heat making life bearable for Mr. Starter.
lol thats what i thought... but had to seconde guess myself. whats invovled in ceramic coating headers? Can it be a DIY type of thing, or best left to the pros?
