I'm looking at replacing my drop-in liner which is really falling apart (doesn't help when you back into the gooseneck coupler...). I use my bed pretty hard, between hay, shavings, boxes, gooseneck hitch, etc, so I want something that's relatively easy to clean, but still strong. I don't want something that has too much grip, I want to be able to clean shavings from the bed.
When I was looking for a spray in liner I think I inquired at a place who sold the Line-X. I think the line-x was thinner and lacked much of the rubber compound that Rhino has in it. Therefore it was sleeker and smoother.
Don't quote me...'cause I'm not 100% on this.
I think the Rhino was about $100 over Line-x too.
Some people like the rubber compound because it helps hold cargo and give somewhat of a bounce to things dropped into the bed.(absorbs the shock)
Then again some people complain that it is hard to shove/slide stuff into the bed because it sticks......
I chose the Rhino liner. Usually the installers can show you a sample of the thickness and material much like a paint sample at a hardware store...
I've had a LineX for about a year now. Tough as nails, and I abuse the heck out of it.
Simple pressure wash and it looks like new again.
I have yet to gouge it , and have had some heavy pallets loaded by fork lift and slid into the bed.
I put a LineX in my truck within weeks of purchase and love it. My dad had LineX put in his truck after I got mine. It has withstood several years of abuse and still looks good.
I had rhino in my s-10 and my mom had rhino in her 99 f-150 and my uncle has rhino in his dodge 1500. all worked great and never had any complaints with them. when i do get a sprayed in liner in my f-150, i'm going to check out line-x to see what the big difference is. and judging by the responses so far here, line-x seems to be the way to go.
and oil/grease/wax can get on the rhino and it won't void the warranty, when i had my s-10 i worked at a motorcycle shop hauling bikes from a customer's place to the shop and got a butt load of fluids all over the bed and when i had them respray the liner because it had gauges to the actual bed, they didn't say a thing about it.
Line-X, had mine for 4 1/2 years now, only minor abrasions on it, all from heavy sharp objects like corners of refrigerators, dryers, etc and any Line-X dealer will repair the abrasions for the life of the liner-best 400.00 I have ever spent on any vehicle, looks awesome, cleans up easily-I have seen the Rhino's up close and it does not look anywhere near as good as the Line-X, Rhino maybe good for light cargo like groceries or smaller loads you do not want to slide around-heavy, slippery items in your bed will slide around a little with the Line-X but that is what tie-downs are for.
Well long story short my old man has a Rhino and deals with hay and fifth wheel stuff, he loves it. My brother has Line-X and loves it cause hes a city boy and a real estate agent, so its just for looks. I went with the bi-mart special that you rool on but since I know how to run a sprayer I mixed mine to match my dark grey bed rail caps and while I was at it I shot my tool box. It looked good and has held up well so far but I am waiting for it to go to crap on me. I'm a fire fighter so its got to look pretty but be able to take one heck of a beating.
I had line-x spayed on my new 03 2 days after I got it. I love it!!! I have gouged it a little but they always fix it no questions asked. I am a diesel mechanic and welder so it has had a little bit of everything hauled in it from whole engines to a bed full of horse feed. One of my brothers is a professional firefighter and rescue paramedic and loves his, my other brother is a farmer and loves his as well. All have seen different kinds of abuse and all have held up very well. Ever seen what fertilizers and manure do to truck beds? You can't even tell he ever had that stuff in his truck.
Ive had my Rhino Liner in my truck for 2 years now and i drove around with trans fluid in the back of it all winter and i got some conditioner stuff to clean it up from the dealer and it looks great now. but it takes alot of abuse and hardly anything moves around in the bed which i absolutly love. Definatly Worth the investment.
