My truck started to make a noise form the engine when starting after sitting over night ( the engine is cold and all the oil has gone down to the oil pan) as soon as my temperature gauge starts to move the noise goes away any idea?
Also notice a comsunption of oil 1 to 2 quart will desapear in 3k miles or so.
Using castrol oil 5w20
well first i like to ask if you get it out of the bottle or the barrel when you take it to get a oil change? i ask b/c this makes a difference. from the bottle the oil has persavertives in it. one is to not break down (oil) where the barrel the oil will breakdown. SECOND lucas oil works great. the oil stays on the gears. so this why you dont hear the wear and tear in ur engine. lucas will prevent wear and tear. 3. check around make shore you dont see any leaks...
Does Ford specify 5W-20 for the 1998? I have a 2000 with 5.4 and do not believe the 5W-20 is specified for our Expedition. I use Shell Rotella Synthetic 5W-40 in the truck. I have also used Mobil 1 and Castrol Syntec 5W-30 oils in the past. For filters, I use either the Motorcraft FL-820S or a PureOne Purolator. I believe the part number is PL-24651. You might want to stick with 5W-30 and the Motorcraft filter for the next oil change and see whether there is any difference. For reference, our 2000 Expedition has @88K miles now.
This weekend I ran a gunk remover this weekend as I did the oil change, the rocking noise seems to have have reduced, but I was looking at the owner's manual and I am putting the wrong oil in the motor should be 5w30 instead of the 5w20. However, since I live in Miami, Florida aka hot as hell should I consider going with a thicker oil and should I go with synthetic blend or maybe even a full synthetic change? will runn gunk out fluid once I do my next oil change, next this week apreciated the reply yall
I switched to 5w-20 due to dealer notifying me about this TSB; however, you need to verify this with your dealer or a qualified service tech to see if your vehicle applies (it appears to, but consult an expert to be sure), this is just for information only based on what they sent me:
