no if I understand correctly I got the vin # I found a identification site for fords and according to the info I got from there i have a styleside. But I am unsure what that means.
Styleside is the official Ford name for 6- or 8-foot beds that had sheet metal that continued the styling from the cab & front fenders. The other bed style was called the "flare bed" by Ford, but many use the generic term step-side - this is the old style bed with separate fenders.
Ok so now I will try to find my donor truck. I will search my local junk yards and so forth. Is there anyone here on the east coast that might have a donor I could pick up or maybe know someone w/ one or where one might be? Thanks guys for all your help so far
Popa, I just noticed that you are in Raleigh, I am just up the road on hwy 50 out of Crabtree. I haven't been there in a couple years but there is a huge yard (***) in Elm City near Wilson. I would love to get up a group of guys and go yarding there again. All vehicles are separated out there Fords from chevies, trucks from cars, vans from pickups.
I agree with Craigslist the Raleigh site is one of the top uses on their network.
In this months edition of Off Road Enthusiast there is a bumpside that the guy put on a excursion frame and some trick coil-over link suspension, it sits pretty high, but the idea is cool. He is even running the V10. he'll have as much in it as a new truck, but it will be cooler.
Ok so I am have a hard time tring to find a donor truck for a good price. So are there any newer model frames my cab will fit on pretty easy? I can make the bed work.
there happened to be one thing that I have to disagree with...
you can insure your vehicle for any amount of money as long as you are willing to pay the premium. I know that most insurance companies have an option of a "Valued Policy" on classic vehicles. SO you CAN insure one of these older trucks for more money then book value.
Keep in mind that you will have to show proof that the vehicle is worth that. Tires, belts, tune-ups, exhaust, batteries, etc...wearable items do not really count as they are maintence items...you spent $800 on tires, way to maintain your vehicle! Does not add dollar for dollar to your trucks net worth.
Ok, I think I may have found a donor truck it is a 88 f150 will my cab 72 f250 fit on the 88 150 frame? What all had to be done? Whould it be easier to get a different one?
This information is in a lot of other threads if you do some searching. In the mean-time, I think you will find that the easier donor trucks for your purposes are those up to '79. After that there are more differences to deal with.

Frames changed, as did the entire F Series truck line beginning in 1980.
What mechanics are you using? Anything newer than 1979 will have excessive smog related junk and the whole tamale is controlled by an onboard computer. Electronic smog and fuel related parts used originally in these computer set ups must be replaced by the exact same parts. Start swapping things around, and you'll end up wih a truck that doesn't run correctly, and will be a nightmare to fix. Stick with a pre 1980 donor.
