New 2008
how do you like the power in your 08 sock?
all i have to base my experiance off of is my light regualr cab with 4.10's and 35's with an auto lifted below
i drove a 4x4 f350 4.10 reg cab 6 spd the other day that had 4.10's and 31k miles..
what do you all think about the drw vs. srw with the v10 and 4.30's? im leaning towards the drw because i work out of my truck and tow/haul supplies and equipment as well (im a construction superintendant)
Im also thinking of going with a 6 speed, ive always favored a handshaker and when towing i love being in the gear i want/need all the time rather than fighting with an auto
whats everyone's experiance with the 3v v-10, 6 speed manual and 4.30's
Unless you are towing very heavy it is almost impossible to over load the bed and it's hauling capicity of the SRW... based on your need to drag tools and equipment in the bed to job sites, I personally think the DRW is not needed, adds costs and has many down sides
I hear you on the hand shaker, but if you are aging and the hips, knees, and ankles are starting to show the wear----- then the 5R110W Torqshift Auto trans is the best option there in for this series truck. I assure you you will never fight it and it's decisions on getting your power to the ground
Hand shakers are for young men that want the fun of running a gear all the way to high RMP... The TorqShift is for men who want to effortlessly move any weight load from a standing start up to cruising speed without paying any attention to gears, traction, or the tachometer....wink
which i move quite frequently
also i pull a 12 ton 30 foot gooseneck occasionally that has a 7k empty weight and we put alot of different things on it
reason for the 6 speed is when im hauling, and im 22 so i still have a little youth left in me....
anyone see much of a mileage difference between a srw and drw similarly equipped???
im hoping i can still get 13 mpg on the highway unloaded
Right now in my truck below...my usualy highway with occasional city is 13.5 give or take a few tenths depending....
and if anyone is wondering...the 06 has been payed for since last august so i wont be going upside down or anything...and as of now im trying to sell it before i order a new truck
i have 12k miles under my belt with my 06 v10 auto...
im just curous how the heavier truck and lower rear gear will be
I have owned a few DRW and really like that rear end a lot for 5th wheel tow and slide in camper usage but in each case I only used the trucks for that usage 20~30% of the time. Once I accidentally found myself with a large SRW truck I was very concerned until the first few trips proved to me the SRW is up to the task.
The SRW and DRWs that I know and have owned all had different motors so I have no first hand MPG comparison.... The MPG log entires here suggest a slight hit with the DRW option....
I think if you get a large 4 door 4x4 DRW you will find 11.5 to 12.5 empty average MPG with either the ZF 6 or 5R110w Auto with 4.30:1 gears... 4.10:1 will not make it measurably better
I am NOT trying to talk you out of the 6 speed or the DRW
I personally think that you can not possibly configure a new F350 with any combination of options that you will not be happy with
Enjoy the shopping you are going to love your new truck no matter how you order it
Im trying to sell my current truck so i can go in with all cash and pay for it all at once, rather than haggle with them on what they will give me for trade in...
Ive decided on the drw 6 speed, thanks for you all's help
one more question...i woudl go with an XL if i coudl get the alloy wheels and chrome grille....i know i could put the wheels on the the dealer is seeing if they could work something out...but im curious if the chrome grille would be a bolt in swap???
If so ill go with an XL because i would prefer the vinyl seats
