Still in the middle of my big move and have been hauling some faily heavy loads. On my way home during the night here studdenly have a very strange growl, not very loud but definalty there.Sounded almost like a wheel bearing.Stopped checked all the wheels etc and they are fine.Got up to speed again and while coosting it seems to be gone. After driving awhile it sounds almost like before when my exh valve would close but not as loud and it's been unplugged.Faily winding out so hard to pin point and very had to describe.Any thoughts or things to check. Many more loads to go before this move is done.I'll have another look in the light in the am.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply.Just got back from a trip with out the trailer and touched everything under the hood and diffs etc and everything seems normal.Less windy today and the noise something like the turbo ?? Noise is loudest just after a bit of a pull and as you are just backing out of the throttle or pulling slightly going over and overpass.Guess that's why yesterday going against a wind the extra push for made it louder. This noise is not really loud, just a differant sound than it ever had before.Even with someone else in the truck you need to explain to them what your hearing if they are not us to the truck. What are the signs of a turbo going bad?Anything I can check before my next load.Turbo is only a couple years old.
Remove the intake tube and take a look at the turbo impeller blades condition. It should rotate very freely and have no movement side to side and un and down.
Go to foremanES user gallery and take a look at his pictures of turbo impellers.
Kudos to him for the picts. Great comparision shots.
I would take another look at the carrier bearing rubber mount. My mount was old and cracked, never noticed anything till I pulled a heavy load, had to start on a hill, the extra torque loosened the rubber damper significantly after that I could hear it more often, the bearing was good, the mount was obviously old, replaced the bearing for 20 bucks problem solved.
Thanks for the reply's.I looked the whole truck over and the only thing I found was the ujoint is loose in the rear diff. yoke.Used shim stock to fix it tempory.Called ford and the item is backordered.I'll get the clamps that hold it it place next week, they do have those but I think the yoke itself is worn.Don't know if this is related to my noise but glad I found it.
