Hey I wish I could find that thread where the guy wanted to disable his truck so his kids couldnt go on joy rides when he is away....anyways this seem like a good product especially if you dont have the money or mechanical skill to install a full blown vehicle alarm.
website talks about low fob batt protection which i assume means it will not arm if no signal recieved. but then it also says auto-arm 30 sec post ignition shutoff.
some confusion here. low fob batt, fob goes through the wash, etc. while truck disabled, then what?
how big is the fob, does it contain the oem door lock controls or is it another fob to carry?
otherwise, for $150, sounds intereseting. its not avail for superduty though.
my prob w/ it would be that its another electroninic gizmo that may go Murphy on ya (Murphy's law).. and then your stuck unless you have the orig relay in the truck (for a theif to find).
I beleave its one of those things that once it is installed its always armed until you press the button on the fob and it disarms, or its disarmed by proximity of the fob to the vehicle IDk. It would be a separate Fob from the factory one unfortunatly and you get two Fobs so if you acidently wash one you got a back up.
The price on JCWhitney is only $99.99 so you can save some by going there. This technology has been used by dealers now for a couple of years. Now I did a search on the fitment guide on that web page and found one for a 2002 F250 SUPER C, so they have them but maybe not for your year yet.
I can think of alot of places in my truck where I could hide the Factory starter relay so a thief couldt find it. I am seriously thinking about getting it atrying it out....they have a satisfaction garentee so if it becomes to much of a hassel than you can get your money back.
I had a setup similar to this on an explorer I had once. The battery in the fob died while it was armed and it wouldn't disarm. This left a friend and I stranded about 30min. from home in the rain. This had me worried until I realized it was just replacing the starter relay, so I got out my owners manual and figured out which relay I could do without for the ride home. I pulled the AC relay and put it in place of the "security" piece, and it started right up. I don't know about you guys, but that pointed out to me that this thing wasn't very secure, so I replaced the original starter relay, and tossed this thing in a junk drawer when I got home.
I guess on the up side the thief wouldn't know it was there and wouldn't know to replace it necessarily.
