comp cam 35-255-5 is a great stock replacement cam and will run on your current computer fine. look into getting either a bassani y pipe or getting a custom y pipe made. the stock ford Y really sucks. if you can get the compression ratio up to 9-1 that will also help.
anyting else should y remember when i do the full rebuild of the engine?
Disassemble the block and take it to a machine shop for a complete instection. Have the crank polished and the rod ends resized. This assumes the motor is running fine and is just tired. If so this is all it should need, don't grind a crank down if it's not absolutely necessary. This will allow the use of stock size bearings, and will ensure long life. Get flat top pistons with valve eyebrows, this brings compression up to 9:1.
The cam Kemical suggested as well as the one I have are both SD EFI friendly. This cam combined with a decent exhaust system and mild head work makes a major difference to this motor. It's got more power everywhere in the powerband, you will be impressed.
You have E7TE heads.. these were on all 87+ truck motors. This sequence is cast into the bottom of the head under one of the center intake runners, so you'll have to remove the heads or at least the intake to see it. There should also be a letter T cast into the front corner near the valve cover.
Here's the FMS MAF Kit... http://store.summitracing.com/partde...DT50&N=700+115
The Ford ignition parts and plug wires are more than up to the job of running the motor. If you need new parts I'd suggest FMS parts first.
The TB spacer is a complete waste of money.
For gaskets, be sure to get a kit with a 1 piece rear main seal. Also get rubber coated steel core valve cover and oil pan gaskets. See the ford dealer for these as well.
You will have to add fittings for the O2 sensor and EGR tube to the passenger side header. Mount the header to the block before it's installed, and lay the intake in place to get the EGR tube positioned correctly. Install the O2 sensor fitting on the side of the collector so that it sits horizontal with the headers mounted. Then have the headers degreased, sand blasted and ceramic coated, or at least painted with decent hi temp paint like VHT 1500. The paint they come with will vaporize the first time the engine is fired.
yes i need new ignition parts. and by FMS you mean motorcraft? and can you show me a pic of how you did your EGR fitting on the header? thanks, conanski
