Well I just stumbled onto this thread and thought I'd go for a look. Sure enough, the key was in the glove box in the plastic bag. That's where my luck ended! Tried to lower the spare because it looks as if it's never been on the ground. Wrong key, that's great! I've removed the tube and can't seem to find any socket to fit over the lock assembly. I'll have to try again another day!
Fte Is Great...once Again Helped Me Out. My Truck Was Also Missing The Lock And I Used The Socket Trick Posted Above. I Used A Mac Tools Special Socket For Rounded Off Heads (14mm) It Worked Great, couple Smacks With Bfh And It Bit The Head Of Lock, lowered Down Spare, pulled Back On Plastic Tube, removed Lock Head(tossed In Garbage) Lubed Everything Up With Fluid Film, replaced Tube, cranked Up Spare, Done!!! Thanks Again Fte!!!
The problem is on my truck someone left the key and the winch, just note the spare or the rest of the cable! So I'm up *****'s creek if I get a flat, so I leave a spare I bought in the bed. I'm guessing someone stole the tire or the past owner was completely stupid and oblivious to the fact the lock key was in the glove box! (It is the right key) But I'm actually going to crack my winch open to see if I can replace the cable. Anyone done this?
