I just bought a weekend warrior flt4005 5th wheel 14k empty and I expect the final load to be 18-20k, just wondering who is pulling what ? And how the f450 handles the heavy loads ? I should be getting my f450 within 2 weeks. Cant wait ~!
just going through mid-life crisis ! LOL - selling my 02 GMC duramax - its not enough truck and I am ready to go back to Ford, has owned 3 other fords and just hope the f450 performs as advertised.
I pulled about 18k with mine today. Piece of cake. I will usually be pulling more than that but did not take everything with me this time. You will not have a problem and you will love the truck!
I have pulled over 2,000 miles with 21,835 loaded down. I have the 4.88's and auto in my '08 F450. I get anywhere from 6.5 to 8.5 mpg pulling. I think Ford made a mistake by lengthening the rear springs to help ride quality. I have no lateral stability. The bed of the truck sways side to side and the trailer accordingly. I ended up having to add airbags because the suspension would bottom out. I am doubtful the truck will hold up...its really working overtime to pull my trailer. Luckily, I have the extended warranty.

Now that's troubling! Especially since we are buying a 2008 to tow our 20,000# + home around the country.
The 2008 F-450 Pickup's High Capacity Trailer Tow Package (option 535) increases the GCWR from 26,000#'s to 33,000#'s so your trailer weight of 21,835# is certainly within Ford's towing weight tolerances assuming your truck weighs 9000#'s +/-. And your pin weight (estimated at 20% of total trailer weight) should be well within Ford's hauling weight tolerances which I believe is 6000#.s
So in your case, Ford's efforts to improve the ride gave up stability even though you are within Ford's specs.

I certainly believe what he is saying, but have serious doubts that his will be a common problem. Could be the type of trailer he is pulling or how it is loaded. But we shall see, I towed about 19k yesterday at highway speeds with no problem. I will probably get it over 20k this week.

Thanks for the reply Kimminau2. I was hoping that the instability he was experiencing might be unique to his trailer which is why I pointed out the F-450 weight limits.
Would be interested in hearing your experiences with the 20K tow. Stay safe out there.
My F450 with 4.88 gears should be arriving in a few weeks. I will be towing a 50 foot Gooseneck Living-quarters Car Hauler that will weigh in at about 17,000 pounds. I don't expect to have any problems since my 2006 F350 DRW Tow Boss pulled it effortlessly In case you are wondering why the new truck its because the 2006 was stolen.
