Hey everyone, looking to see if anyone ran into this problem. I traded my 2003 f250 for a 2006 f250. This week everytime I start the truck, it cranks way too long, it takes 3 key cycles to start, and runs poorly for the first 5 min. I have noticed a decline in overall performance as well. It is a 5.4 with 1,821 miles on it. I was thinking bad gas or oxygenated gas. I really want to try and avoid the dealer, but it looks like it has to go back. I looked for ssms and tsbs and found none. Just curious if anyone else had this problem. Btw, it happens after a 2-3 hour cold soak.
I am thinking IAC, EGR or EGR related. There is alot of info here on problems with the EGR stuff, and while you have parts off the plenum give your IAC a good cleaning.
I don't knowy why you would want to avoid the dealer. If it only has 1,823 miles on it and it's acting like that, take it back and make them fix it. You paid too much for it to have problems like that already. Or if you really think it's a bad tank of gas, wait until you refill to confirm it.
Update, just got back from a local dealer, they said 1 or more fuel injectors are leaking down, and there is a redesigned spark plug with a bigger air gap. they cant seem to pinpoint which injectors are leaking down, they are gonna replace all 8, made me leave the truck because oil has fuel in it, and they said they have seen bent rods due to this condition. They are replacing all 8 injectors, new spark plugs on back order, and changing the oil and filter. Shouldnt have traded my 03, this stinks.
Wow. Thanks for the update. If they get it all fixed, you will have a better truck with the new 5.4L. But holy cow, that's a lot. Hope you didn't get a lemon. Keep us posted.

YIKES!!! That is a total bummer!
What I find more interesting...is the "redesigned spark plug with a bigger air gap" statement.
They might be talking about the new 3v modular spark plugs, but they have NOT been redesigned since they were introduced for '05 ('04 if we were talking F150). At least not to my knowledge.
The injectors are an easy fix...and its better they replace all of them if they are not going to test them properly. Sometimes...it is just easier and saves time.
Thanks for replys guys, this is making me sick. Even though its under warranty, I have had the truck only 3 months. Never had a problem with my 03, as far as redesigned spark plugs, never heard of such a thing, but its unusual that spark plugs are on back order I think. Ill keep ya posted.
I have a 2005 f150 with a 5.4 my injectors went bad i was driving down the road and it started smoking like a crack WHOR* when i got it back it sounded like a powerstorke and all they can tell me is that the injectors make noise this took place with 1300 miles on it now it has 27000 and my lease is up so its going back.
Well, got the truck back with 8 new injectors and it runs great. I am still waiting on the redesigned spark plugs, they said they put them through as an emergency order. Turns out a I got a good tech to work on my truck, believe or not, he thinks the truck will run even better with the new plugs, as he stated it has a differernt gap, we'll see.
Got new plugs installed yesterday, I must say it idles smoother, especially when coming off a cold start. Now this truck runs the way it should, brought a case of bud in for the tech who did a great job..
