how many miles on your injector pump?? it sounds like your pump is getting ready to say by-by.

about 86,000 on mine i turned it up about 1000 miles ago. i dont think its about to die because its been doing it for over 3 years, ever since i got the truck. i have a friend with a brand new pump on a 85 6.9 (mabye 10,000 on pump/over haul) and it will do the same thing

I'd say your sucking some air into the pump. Must have a small leak in your fuel lines somewhere.

I vote air as well sounds like she purges out then you get full fuel with your turbo already spooled up.

Also if the cold advance is still on your IP timing is advanced.
You may just be seeing the power you could have with the timing set at 8.5 or 9 BTDC.
