About two weeks ago i blew my carrier bearing. Basicall the metal casing came off and tore all the rubber out. So i had a new one pressed on. I have a 93' F250 with 6" of lift. So i figured this would be a good time to put a spacer in it's about 3/4" steel block to lower the drive shaft. When washing it today i noticed the carrier bearing did the same thing. Is anyone else had the same problem? Do i need to lower it more or should I have left it alone. I went mudding with it this weekend and i'm pretty sure that's when it broke. But is there a heavy duty one or should i just get one from the factory?
I think we have a terminology problem. Carrier bearings are on the ring gear carrier around where the axles enter it. I think you might mean the pinion bearing, because you didn't say you took the diff cover off.
If it is the pinion bearing, you will need to check your pinion angle. If you have one Ujoint at each end of the driveshaft, your angles should be completmetary. If you have two ujoints at one end and one at the other, the angle should be equal.
Yea sorry guys that's what i'm talking about it the piece that mounts the drive shaft's up in the middle of the truck i thought it was called the carrier bearing?? It's on the first drive shaft.
When I got my muffler installed the guy told me to install the 1" plate so I did this last time when I installed the new bearing but maybe I should take it back out? It's $60 a pop and with one going out every few weeks it could get pricey.
