Diesel Fuel in Baja California

Hello All,

I have 2006 F250 6.0 liter and i'm making a trip deep into baja in May and taking my truck for the first time. I was wondering if anyone can share their experiences with using the Diesel down there, I know the gas can be a little suspect octane wise sometimes, so I was wondering if there is any additives or any advice anyone could give?

Thanks,
Todd

Hey boss.

I was down there for a couple of weeks in December, but not with my truck. I did see a number of 6.0 powerstrokes- either yankees running from the snow or Mexican beer companies running 450 CCs. It seems to me that if Ford/IH is supplying that market with the 6.0, there are no issues with fuel. I might be concerned about an '08 LSD motor because there are no (few) environmental controls in Mexico- and I suspect the sulfur content is all over the map. So I would have confidence in a pre-'08 truck and high-volume stations.

The gas stations are state-owned- clean and seem to be well run.

Just take extra fuel filters, not because you should anticipate problems specific to Mexico today but because you should always have extra filters on the road.

go where the "nice" big rigs are filling up and you should be fine. i have driven baja to cabo and inbetween many times to go surfing w/ a friend who had a '02 7.3L and we never had fuel problems. you might aswell use an atitive, i do every tank of diesel even when im in america, and if you want bring an extra fuel filter just in case.

Sounds good, I'll have to research some additives and start carrying an extra filter.

I was just down there for a week and had no problems at all. I just brought some addative with me and put some in every tank full. Don't sweat it. By the way, where you headed?

That's cool, what additive do you suggest? We are headed to Punta Chivato/Mulege

You should like mulege, we stayed just south of there. Are you gonna see the whales? If you haden't planned on it, I would consider it. You can see them out of San Ignacio, and let me tell ya, it's worth it. Just be sure to have them drive you, don't drive yourself, the road is pretty harsh.

I use the Motorcraft addative, but that's because my wife works at the dealer and I get a good price on it. Plus if they ever try to give me crap I can prove that it's thier product I've been using.

Have fun and be safe!
