Dirty Xenarcs

Greetings,

I'm looking for recommendations for replacement headlamp housings for my Y2K Expy. Can someone assist?

I've had a Sylvania Xenarc HD 2010 kit for 3 years - it's one of my all-time favorite purchases. Unfortunately, a smoky residue has begun to appear and grow darker on the inside of the lens on both modules. Light output is slowly diminishing over time, especially on the passenger side, and in daylight, the clear look of the lens is a distant memory. Has anyone else seen this? Can it be cleaned somehow?

Sylvania stopped making this kit about 2 years ago. Replacement parts are no longer available. I suppose I could find another complete kit, somewhere, but times are tighter now and I can't sink another half a large into headlights.

Fortunately, Sylvania says that they're going to refund my purchase in its entirety, because I notified them of the problem before the 3-year warranty ran out. That's stellar!

So...any recommendations for something that will shine brighter than the OEM housings without making my truck look like a teenager's cruiser?

Best regards,

Tim ==

I use the sylvania silver stars, but to be honest, I'd like to know where you got your kit (where I can order mine). I was never sure of what I need to get in order to retain the highbeam functionality (if possible) without it being a crappy solution.

It's a full kit, made by Sylvania, and it's discontinued. Kits are no longer available. Parts not available, also.

Hey. Why dont you look on Ebay for Lightning style headlamps. They look like the original units which came on the 2nd Gen Lightnings, so you won't look like a "teenage crusier" as you put it. IMO they provide great light output over the stockers, even with regular bulbs. I think you will be very satisfied with the headlamps when you get them, I sure was. GL!

Those look pretty nice. Thanks for the tip. What's a 7K HID? A conversion kit based on the 9007 bulb?

Sorry, I mean 7000 Kelvin temperature, High Intensity Discharge conversion kit. Yes it is based on the 9007 bulb which our trucks use. The Stock lamps and the Lightning lamps both use this bulb so you don't have to worry about having to swith harnesses for plug and play installation.

The Kelvin temps range from about 3000k to 14000k. This ultimately means how blue the color will look and how good you light output will be. The best IMO is 5000k-7000k, these color temps provide the best balance between great light output vs. 'blueness'(if thats what you want) of the actual color of the light. If memory serves a 6000k HID bulb produces somewhere around 8x the light output than a regular halogen based unit. Beware though, as the color temerature increases however the light output will begin to diminish. The kits on my truck put out aproximately 3.5x the light of a halogen bulb. Basically the hotter you go the smaller the output. Hope this helped. Good luck!
