Alright guys, I have recently been shopping around for a Bronco (my first 4X4) and I had pretty much decided on an '87 I found with 110,000 miles. The only problem that I am having is I have heard so many bad things about the flange style hubs. I just wanted to know if all 87's had the flanges or are some the regular manual locking hubs or even auto locking. Also if it is a flange style how can I tell? I am supposed to go talk to the dealer tommorrow morning so any help that I could get fairly quick would be great. Thanks.
If you like the truck go for it, the flange style hubs can be eliminated at a later date.
To see if it's a flange style hub, just look at the area around the dial. If you see allen head screws, it's NOT. If there are no allen head screws circling the dial it IS.
You would NOT be able to do this to a flange style hub:
