Bizzarre O40d Problem
I've got a 2001 F250 4x4 w/142k... The other day I pulled out of a parking lot at slow speed and wham, it just came out of gear. So I put the gearshift into D2 as I coasted and it took off. As I got up more rpm I slipped it back into drive and it works fine.. until I stop. 1st gear in drive and D1 doesn't work. So as long as I start out in D2 I'm fine. It drives on the freeway. The overdrive button works on or off. There are No codes and No blinking lights. Also, at the same time that the low gear went out, reverse also doesn't work. What would be the connection? I've changed fluid and checked all connections. There was No sign of metal in the changed fluid. Also, this is my 2nd Trans and has 80,000 miles..Any Ideas?? Hoping someone will tell me it's just a fuse..

Or maybe the switch on the shifter (on the side of the tranny - tells the computer what gear you're in).
I'd just plain bring it to a tranny shop and get a quote - then report back here and see if it sounds reasonable.
