Last night I was driving my 1965 F-350 to my friends house and all of a sudden all of the lights cut out. They came back on, then cut out, came on, cut out, came on, ect. Each cut on or off lasted 1-5 seconds. If i turned the lights off then back on they woudl stay for a few seconds and shut off again. Also, if i twisted the light switch **** it would sometimes get them to work. However, the emergency flashers worked the whole time and did not cut out when I drove it home. Any Ideas where to start on this problem? Is it the switch? Also, if it is, how do you get to it? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Garrett
That sounds like the headlight switch connector is coming off or the switch itself is bad. Take a look under the dash and look at the connector. Wiggle it around a little while someone else is watching your lights. If it goes in and out try wiggling one wire at a time to isolate which one is loose. If nothing happens I would change out the switch since they are less then $25 from most parts stores.
AIRHARLEY IS PROBABLY RIGHT ABOUT THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH. mINE DID THE SAME THING BUT i ALSO HAD A HIGH BEAM SWITCH CAUSE THE SAME ISSUE AS IT SHORTED OUT. IT IS ALSO A QUICK FIX, TWO SCREWS AND A PLUG CONNECTION.
Look for a short. As I recall, there's not a fuse for the lights...but there's a self-resetting circuit breaker. Kind of like a BIG thermal flasher in principle. The floor high-beam switch is a good starting point; crud gets in there...and/or corrosion. If that looks clean, look for chafed wires as they pass through firewall, radiator support, etc.
As already noted, sounds like possible poor ground. Check ground connectors at each light as well as connector to headlight. Also suggest check to see if connector at dimmer switch is secure and whether hi/lo beam is working.

thank you for all the replies. I plan on just getting a new switch right away, but will check ground wires around the truck first. Thanks again
