Question 03 excursion stereo q's

i have a few questions you guys might be able to help with.

1) did the excursion ever come with a factory sub, and if so, where was it located?
2) i want to put two subs in the rear saloon doors, is there anyhting special about removing the interior panels from them?
2a) i would like to have a clean install on these, so i was wondering if there are any contact connectors that i could use between the door and body instead of drilling holes and running wires into the doors???
3) how difficult is it to connect an amp to the factory head unit? i have the 6 disc indash unit.

i have already added an IR transmitter to the factory overhead dvd unit since the late 03's did not come with wireless headphones. very clean install if i say so myself. added the prodigy brake controller too.

any help ya'll could provide would be greatly appreciated.

jud

There is little air space in those doors. I would not try to put more then a 10" woofer in each one. Also I highly recommend you fiberglass the inside of the doors to make it ridged, or at the minimal Dynamat the whole thing. That steel is not very thick and will resonate if you don’t reinforce it.

Anyway they do make OEM and aftermarket rubber boots that allow you to run the wire through. Like the ones that are on the front doors of the vehicle that the wire passes through. I don’t know what they are technically called, but they do exist. However those could become very annoying to install. What I generally do is drill a hole just big enough for the wire to fit through. Then I put a nylon bushing on both the holes to protect the wire. After that I wrap the exposed wire in loom and tape it or I put heat shrink over the whole part of the exposed wire. This not only helps protect it, it makes it look sleek and OEM.

They do make contact connectors that you could use. I personally would not suggest using them though. They can get dirty and stop conducting or not conduct as well. If you want them check eBay or Google.

And it’s not too hard to connect an amp to the factory headunit. All you need to do is either run wire to the back for the high level input on the amp, or preferably use a high level converter and run RCA's back. You can keep the high level converter next to the headunit so you dont have to extend the wires all the way to the back.
