I don't know if this fits here, but can I get some help on horse trailers. I have a new 07 F350, short bed, and unfortunately I am having a tough time on choosing a trailer. I figure I will have to get an extension on the coupler and want a gooseneck that is not completely flat. Like the Lakota trailers. There are so many out there, man is it confusing. I have never pulled a gooseneck before and just trying to do my research. 3H with 10 foot plus LQ, all aluminum with good pricing.
I love and have always had good luck with Sooners, but those have all been bumper pulls. Are you looking to buy new? Most of the big name brands are good. Are you going to be towing in salty road conditions? If so, you have to watch out form aluminum frames like Featherlite because they don't hold up too well.
You didn't say what kind of hitch rig you have set up on your truck. I went with a B&W system because it gives me the ability to pull either type of trailer. I can pull the goosneck with the turnover ball, the 5ver with the Companion and still have the bumper pull if needed. As far as the "Lakota" trailer, I really haven't had much contact with them but we do have a lot of the Feather lite's around here and they seem to hold up fairly well, of course we don't have the road salt problem.
Let us know how you go, it can always help another in thier decision makiing process.
I forgot to mention that I also like Keifer Builts. I don't know if they have the setup you are looking for, but I have hauled one for a friends and it is a very solid trailer. I have hauled many horse trailers and this one (bumper pull) has been the best one I have towed. They are a little heavy, but solid. My family owns a horse farm here, so if you ever have any questions let me know.
just remember you get what you pay for! I use to pull new horse trailers all over the western US and the diffence in quality was pretty amazing. IMO the best built aluminum is Wilson.
Hey guys thanks, I am getting a gooseneck, and will be getting the B&W set up for pulling. Driving over to Bunkhouse Conversions to look today. They have a few 4 Star trailer, but my top 2 are the Kiefer and the Lakota. Haven't looked at Wilson yet, but will check it out.
